Sandra Ruiz, Kim Strassburger, and the second annual Southwestern Summer Shakespeare Festival

In this interview From Another Zero, Sandra and Kim discuss that the Southwestern College Theatre Arts Department in Chula Vista in San Diego County is hosting its second annual Southwestern Summer Shakespeare Festival, currently performing until August 4, 2024. All tickets are $10.

This summer’s plays by William Shakespeare are “Romeo y Julieta ”and “Much Ado About Nothing.”

Sandra Ruiz directed the bilingual Romeo y Julieta, and Kim Strassburger directed Much Ado.

Our guests discuss the meaning of Shakespeare for them, attracting new audiences, and keeping up with the coming generations. Of course, this interview includes their Other Zero which are pretty good!

Alejandra Enciso-Dardashti is a binational communications, public relations, and production consultant specializing in the performing arts. Latino Theater Company Celebrates 41st Season with World Premiere: The Storyteller of East LA

The plot of this story, as the title says, is set in East Los Angeles, with Mercedes (Lucy Rodriguez), a 90-year-old woman with dementia. Her health is declining and practically bed-bound; her youngest daughter, Grace (Zilah Mendoza), is the caretaker with the help of day and nighttime caregivers. When the ICE raids become more frequent and closer, the night person quits, leaving Grace in a more stressful and frustrated state, considering moving Mercedes into an assisted facility.
